New Panel for After Effects

Rig it once. Then animate.

Name your layers like a character, press Rig, and you get hands and feet you can drag, elbows and knees that bend the right way, and a picker to grab any part. RigKit does the setup so the time goes into the animation.

This is the real panel. Scan the sample character, pick parts on Noodle, try a cycle. Inside After Effects it rigs your layers.

How it works

Name. Rig. Animate.

RigKit reads your layer names, finds the arm, leg, head and body parts, and builds the controls on top. Your artwork stays as it is.

  1. Name

Upper arm L, forearm L, hand L… any of 14 naming styles. Anchor points on the joints.

  2. Rig

Scan the comp, check the map on Noodle, press Rig character. IK and controllers go on.

  3. Animate

Drag hands and feet, key poses from the picker, add a walk cycle or squash in a click.

Everything inside

Five tabs. The whole character.

Rig

From your own layers, or a quick character to start from.

  • Scan the comp — reads 14 naming styles, shows the map on Noodle
  • IK arms and legs that keep their rest pose, mirrored parents too
  • Rig from selection: arm, leg or a chain for tails and hair
  • Quick character to block out an idea

Animate

The picker and the poses, where most of the time goes.

  • Noodle picker: click a part to select it in the timeline
  • Key all or only the selected controllers
  • Poses: save, apply, mirror, reset
  • Flip facing and show or hide controllers

Cycles

Motion that loops, from sliders on the master.

  • Walk, run and idle cycles on the rig
  • Travel across the comp at the cycle's pace
  • Bake to keyframes when you want to hand-tweak
  • Cycle on and off without losing your keys

Motion

The secondary motion that makes it feel alive.

  • Squash that stretches with speed and squashes on impact
  • Overlap for antennas, ears and hair
  • On any layer, rigged or not
  • Remove it cleanly in one click

The details

Made for real projects.

Your artwork stays yours

RigKit adds controllers and expressions on top of your layers. Nothing is precomposed, redrawn or replaced.

The rest pose never moves

Rigging reproduces the pose you drew exactly — also on mirrored limbs — and only changes when you drag.

Plain After Effects underneath

Nulls, sliders and expressions. The project opens and renders on any machine, even without RigKit.

Every action is one undo

Rig, pose, bake or flip — Ctrl/Cmd + Z puts it back in one step.

Library

Save a character setup and build it again in the next project.

Same family, same feel

RigKit sits next to MotionKit: the same panel design, the same status bar, the same way of working.

Install

Three steps, one minute.

RigKit is a signed extension, like the rest of MotionLabs. No Terminal, no developer tools. Same steps on macOS and Windows.

  1. Get RigKit

One signed .zxp file and your licence key, from Gumroad · €15. One licence, up to 5 computers.

  2. Install it with one drag

Get the free ZXP Installer from aescripts, open it and drag the .zxp onto the window.

  3. Open it

Paste your licence key once and press Activate. Restart After Effects, then Window → Extensions → RigKit. Dock it next to your timeline.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

How much is it?

€15, once. One licence works on up to 5 computers and includes every 1.x update. The demo at the top of this page is the real panel, so you can try every tab before you buy.

How do I name my layers?

Something like Upper arm L, Forearm L, Hand L, Thigh R, Torso, Head. RigKit reads 14 styles (arm_upper_l, L-UpperArm, braço sup E…), and shows you what it found before it rigs.

Does my character need a special setup?

Only anchor points on the joints: the shoulder for the upper arm, the elbow for the forearm and so on. Parenting is done for you.

Will the file open without RigKit?

Yes. Everything it builds is nulls, sliders and expressions — native After Effects.

Which versions of After Effects?

After Effects 2023 and later, on macOS and Windows.

Less rigging. More animating.
